Last Updated : August 1, 2012 09:28:10 ISTNew Delhi : Most places affected by the failure of three power grids in the country will get back power by 7-7:30 p.m., Power Grid Corp of India chairman R.K. Nayak assured Tuesday, asking the public to have faith in the transmission system.
“Please spread the message that we know our business well, please trust us,” said Nayak, about his officers who manage the country’s electricity transmission system through a network of subsidiaries.
The Power Grid Corp and its subsidiaries buy electricity from various generating firms, including those outside India like in neighbouring Bhutan, and transmit such power via their network to the distribution companies, which in turn sell it to end-consumers.
Nayak said Power Grid officials were analysing data from more than 100 sub-stations to understand the causes of such a massive outage so that such breakdowns could be avoided in the future.

Describing the situation leading up to the breakdown, Nayak said it was caused by some states overdrawing electricity and called for more grid discipline.
“Let us have more grid discipline. At 6 p.m. yesterday we messaged all state electricity boards not to overdraw (power), because a few sections started showing more load,” Nayak said, but declined to name the states that were overdrawing electricity .
