Barack Obama not to visit Pakistan during India trip

Washington : US president Barack Obama would not stop in Pakistan during his November trip to India and instead he would visit India’s hostile neighbour in 2011, according to an official statement by the White House.

The Office of the Press Secretary of Obama said in a statement: “The President explained that he would not be stopping in Pakistan during his trip to Asia next month, and committed to visiting Pakistan in 2011, as well as welcoming President Zardari to Washington.”

Obama cleared the air to a high-level strategic dialogue delegation to USA from Pakistan.

Earlier there were speculations that Obama would also visit Pakistan during his India trip.

There are also some media reports ahead of Obama’s high profile visit to India that the US President might support India’s permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the United States to intervene in the Kashmir dispute.

?We urge the United States, a friend of both India and Pakistan, to do everything in its power to resolve this conflict; and remove one more source of Muslim discontent and anger, taking oxygen out of the terrorists? fire,? Qureshi said in a speech at the Harvard University Institute of Politics, Pakistan media reported.
