Sri Lanka defeats Kenya by 9 wickets
In a completely one sided match Sri Lanka thrashed minnows Kenya to win their league stage match at the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka defeated Kenya by 9 wickets and 188 balls remaining in their innings.
Chasing the score of 142 as set by Kenya, Sri Lanka reached 146 runs for the loss of 1 wicket quite comfortably.
Batting first Kenya could only manage 142 runs for the loss of all wickets in 43.4 overs.
Collins Obuya remained the top of the Kenyan batsmen with 52 runs before getting out to Sri Lankan pacer L. Malinga.
He was well supported by David Obuya as he scored 51 runs.
The 94 runs partnership between the two helped Kenya in reaching 142 runs as none other batsmen were comfortable in facing the Sri Lankan pace attack.
Malinga remained the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers as he picked 6 wickets in the match by giving only 38 runs.
He also achieved his second World Cup hat-trick in this match.
He picked up the wickets of T Mishra, Peter Ongondo and Shem Ngoche in his hat-trick on Tuesday.
The Kenyan batsmen looked absolutely helpless in front of Malinga.
Chasing 143 for victory, Sri Lankan batsmen reached the target quite comfortably, as they scored 146 for the loss of 1 wicket in just 18.4 overs.
Upul Tharanga remained the highest scorer in the Sri Lankan innings with 67 runs.
He hit 12 boundaries in his innings of 67 and remained not out till the end.
He was well supported by another opener T. Dilshan who scored 44 runs in just 30 deliveries before getting out to Otieno.
Kumar Sangakkara (27*) and Tharanga remained not out till the end and ensured their side an easy victory in the end and gain more 2 points.
