Man of the Match Jean Paul Duminy blazed his way to 99 off 103 balls to lead from a precarious 117 for five to 272 for seven in 50 overs.
Right from the start while chasing, Ireland suffered disappointment as Morne Morkel sent back the openers William Porterfield and Stirling, and Kallis had Niall O’Brien caught behind, all in the space of 10 overs.
Robin Peterson spun the old ball and left Ireland reeling at 107 for seven by dismissing Kevin O’Brien (19) and Gary Wilson (31) in the same over followed soon after by Alex Cusack (seven).
Johnston (12), Mooney (14) and Dockrell (16) stretched the innings before Morkel fittingly claimed the final wicket to wrap up the innings for 141.
The win also ensured South Africa’s passage to the quarter-finals with Ireland due to play a dead-rubber tie on Friday against the Netherlands, who are currently bottom of the table.
