Vijender Singh marries long-time girlfriend Archana

India star boxer Vijender Singh got married on Tuesday in a private ceremony in the national capital, which was attended by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Singh, who won the Olympic bronze medal in Beijing in 2008, got married to his long-term girlfriend Archana at the Flying Club here.

It was a small ceremony mostly attended by family and friends.

The reception is expected to take place in Bhiwani on Wednesday and it is expected to be attended by important figures from the world of sports and politics.

“It is a great moment in my life. I’ve known Archana since 2007 when we were introduced through a common friend. The friendship grew
stronger and finally last year I proposed and she accepted,” said the World No.1.

Vijender admitted that he won’t even have any time for honeymoon, as he prepares for the 2012 London Olympics.

“I just got back from the Arafura games and will leave for Cuba soon for training,” he said.
