Innocent Emu birds suffer due to farming scam in India
As many more incidents of abandoned Emu farms is coming to light, The Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations (FIAPO) urges the animal Husbandry commissioner Mr. Amarjeet… to prohibit Emu farming considering cruel practices in raising these exotic birds in the country.
Emus are native Australian birds, farming Emus for a commercial gain is a recent activity in India which has failed drastically. Whosover has invested in the business have suffered losses and there are enough examples in the country to demonstrate it.
Advocating for a complete abolition for Emu farming on grounds of inhumane practices involved, the federation in its letter wrote that “the slaughter practices are also questionable. There is no specialized knowledge or infrastructure for slaughter of Emu. It is known that Emus are inhumanely slaughtered, wherein their features are ripped apart from their skin, leaving them bleeding as they wait for their turn to be hung upside down and slaughter. This is just after the birds have been through hours or even days of starving and vigorous transport in congested trucks, heat, damp, thirst and terror.???
There is no debate about inevitability of commercial Emu farming in India. It has failed in Australia and now India is facing it. People are being duped and the birds are paying the price for it. We want complete prohibition of Emu farming to rule out possibility of further people or birds getting into the failed business venture.???- says Arpan Sharma, CEO of FIAPO.
