Blast on troopers’ route in Manipur
Imphal : Troopers of Assam Rifles had a close shave Sunday as suspected rebels triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) on the route of their convoy in Manipur’s capital Imphal, police said. No one was injured.
The blast occurred at Tiddim ground near Tulihal airport seconds after the troopers of the 20th Assam Rifles battalion passed from the area, Imphal district police chief Konsam Jayanta Singh told IANS.
He said preliminary reports suggested that the rebels triggered the IED blast by a remote control from a nearby place.
Though no rebel group has claimed responsibility for the blast, police and intelligence officials said the explosion were carried out by rebels.
