Mamata Banerjee slams media for magnifying rape cases

Kolakata  : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata slams media, especially electronic news channels, for tailoring the news items and disseminating canards in a bid to exaggerate rape incidents to malign her government.

She further alleged that news items were being tailored to serve business interests.

Bannerjee also said that rape cases are on a rise in the country because men and women interact with each other more freely now.

Banerjee’s statement comes at a time when already earlier statements by leaders of the ruling Congress party and village councils caused a stir on the issue in view of the recent spate of rapes in Haryana.
