French diplomat gets bail in rape case

Bangalore  : French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, arrested in June on charges of sexually assaulting his four-year-old daughter, was Wednesday granted conditional bail by the Karnataka High Court.

Mazurier, deputy head of chancery in the French consulate here, has to furnish a personal bond of Rs.100,000, with two sureties for the like sum, surrender his passport to a local court, not leave Bangalore without the court’s permission, and not tamper with witnesses.

The bail on these conditions was granted by high court Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das.

Mazurier, who does not enjoy diplomatic immunity, was arrested June 19 on a complaint by his Kerala-born wife Suja Jones that he had sexually abused their four-year-old daughter June 13.
