Delhiites unhappy with meagre power rate cut

New Delhi : Delhiites are not happy with a paltry decrease in power tariff announced by the Delhi government Monday, said a representative of a residents’ group.

“We are not at all happy with the announcement. It is like a ‘lollipop’ that the government is giving to consumers,” Dwarka Residents Welfare Association (RWA) president Mukesh Sinha told IANS.

“The government has fooled us. We are planning to hold a protest against the government for announcement of a meagre decrease in the power tariff,” said B.S. Vohra, president of the Joint Front of RWA (East Delhi).

According to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, a domestic consumer will now be charged Rs.3.70 per unit for the first 200 units of power, the lowest slab of electricity consumption.

Consumers having monthly usages between 201 to 400 units, however, will now have to shell out 70 paise more per unit — Rs.5.50 instead of Rs.4.80 earlier. Customers were earlier charged a flat Rs.4.80 for the first 400 units.
