Rains over, Delhi ready to celebrate Dussehra

New Delhi  :  Delhi is set to celebrate Dussehra Wednesday, with organisers stuffing firecrackers into Ravana and other effigies which got wet in Tuesday’s sudden rains.

“The effigies have dried up. We are stuffing them with firecrackers and electronic accessories,” Arjun Kumar of the Lav-Kush Ramlila Committee in central Delhi told IANS.

“When Lord Rama’s fire-tipped arrows pierce through them, the effigies will emit fire from the mouth and their ornaments will change colour,” he added.

“As they collapse on the ground, people will hear them taking the name of Lord Rama,” he added.

A sudden heavy downpour Tuesday threatened to cancel the annual burning of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakaran effigies as many got wet and some damaged.

The organisers had to work overtime to repair the damaged effigies.

With the weatherman forecasting no rains Wednesday, the organisers are definitely breathing a sigh of relief.

The Navratra festivities dedicated to Goddess Durga also drew to an end Wednesday.
