12 Delhi policemen suspended for dereliction of duty

New Delhi  :  Twelve 12 police personnel have been suspended within the last two days for dereliction of duty, according to a police officer.

While five policemen were deputed to south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj North police station, seven were posted at central Delhi’s Kamla market police station.

The Vasant Kunj North policemen were suspended Friday following a raid at a nightclub, found to be running allegedly without the requisite licences.

A police officer said the nightclub “Billionaire” was violating almost all the guidelines for pubs and discotheques in Delhi.

The club was found open after the new permissible timeline of 12.30 a.m. Alcohol was being served to customers to the accompaniment of loud music,” the officer said.

The raid was conducted at around 2 a.m. Friday.

“Over 100 boys and girls were present at the club at the time of the raid. As many as 40 youths were below the age of 25 years,” said the officer.

In the second case, seven policemen from Kamla market police station were suspended as they failed to prevent a minor girl from being sold into a brothel.

Four people — the brothel mistress, the victim’s buyer Suman, another woman Premawati and her husband, a DTC bus helper — have been arrested.

The girl, belonging to a family affiliated to a political party in West Bengal, was kidnapped two months ago by a youth from a rival party.

She was then sold to Suman who with the help of Premawati forced her into prostitution.

The girl was rescued Wednesday night from a secluded place in east Delhi’s Shastri Park area.
