Arjun Munda to be sworn in as Jharkhand CM on Sept 11

New Delhi/Ranchi: Signalling a possible end of the political impasse in Jharkhand, Governor MOH Farooq on Thursday invited BJP?s chief ministerial candidate Arjun Munda to form a new government after the Union Cabinet recommended the revocation of President?s rule in the state.

Farooq has invited Munda to take oath as the chief minister at 11 am on Saturday (September 11) and prove his majority in the state Assembly within seven days.

Earlier in the day, the union Cabinet recommended the revocation of President?s rule from Jharkhand.

The President shall now have to be approve the Cabinet?s decision, which is a mere formality.

Munda, a former chief minister, had on Tuesday called on the Governor with a proposal to form a Bharatiya Janata Party government in Jharkhand with the support of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s legislators.

Munda claimed the support of 45 MLAs (Members of the Legislative Assembly) in the House of 82.

In the list submitted to the Governor, there were 18 MLAs each of BJP and JMM, two from Janata Dal (United), five from All Jharkhand Students Union and two independents.

Jharkhand is under President’s rule since June 1 last after the BJP and JMM parted ways following cross voting by JMM chief Shibu Soren in the Lok Sabha during cut motions in the Budget session in April brought by BJP and Left parties.

Soren resigned from the chief minister’s post on May 30 following withdrawal of support by the BJP and the state came under President’s Rule on June 1.

The JMM has offered “unconditional” support to the BJP after which its legislature party elected former Chief Minister Arjun Munda as its leader.
