PM unhappy with Gill, Reddy over CWG preparations
New Delhi : With time ticking away for India as the dates for the start of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) draw closer, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday slammed Union Sports minister MS Gill and Union Urban Development minister Jaipal Reddy for the delay in the preparations.
Singh pulled up the duo at a Cabinet meeting here for the delay in completion of work and below-par standards in several projects.
Refusing to allow Gill to make a presentation on the CWG at the meeting, the prime minister asked the Union minister to ?behave like a Sports minister? and ?act, rather than talk now?, reports said.
Reddy came under criticism for the incomplete and sub-standard work at the stadiums and Games Village, the reports claimed.
The prime minister asked the ministers to work in better coordination and stop trying to blame each other and approach with the prestige of the country in mind.
Singh had met Gill, Reddy, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit and Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna at his residence on Thursday evening.
He had reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction at the controversies surrounding the Games and incomplete preparations, while asking Gill, Reddy and Dixit to get their acts together.
