Move to shift Ajmal Kasab to Yerwada Jail

The Mumbai Police feels the Arthur Road Jail housing the Pakistani terrorist, Mohammed Kasab, is not strong enough and has suggested the 26/11 attacker be removed to Yerwada Jail in Pune.

The state police has sent a proposal to the Maharashtra government after reviewing the security of Mohammed Kasab at the Arthur Road Jail, saying that the terrorist be shifted to Pune’s Yerwada jail, the biggest prison in the state.

Joint Police Commissioner Himanshu Roy (Crime Branch) said the proposal was now under the government’s consideration.

Kasab, who was sentenced to death for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is lodged in a solitary confinement at Arthur Road jail in the city.

The state government is awaiting the Bombay High Court confirmation on Kasab’s conviction after which he is likely to be shifted to Yerwada jail due to security reasons, police said.
