India beat England to enter hockey final
India set up a title clash with Australia as the hosts entered the finals of men’s hockey in the ongoing Commonwealth Games edging past a fighting England 5-4 in tie breaker (8-7 on aggregate) at the National Stadium here on Tuesday night.
Both the teams were locked in a 3-3 draw in the scheduled period.
Custodian Bharat Chetri became the saviour for India as he brilliantly saved a shot of England’s Glenn Kirkham to clinch the match for India.
Earlier in the day, Australia defeated New Zealand 6-2 in the first semifinal.
In the exciting tie-breaker, Sarvanjit Singh, Vikram Pillay, Sandeep Singh, Arjun Halappa and Shivendra Singh netted for India.
In the regulation time, Sarvanjit (twice) and Pillay converted for India while for England the scorers were Jackson (twice) and Simon.
