CWG: Closing ceremony to be another spectacular show

After a spectacular inauguration that dazzled the viewers across the country and abroad, the closing ceremony of the ongoing Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Thursday promises to be an extravaganza of colours with the message of unity and solidarity.

President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa will attend the closing ceremony ‘as a guest of honour’.

According to reports, the highlight of the closing ceremony will be an eight-minute laser show, which will mesmerize the audience inside JawaharLal Nehru stadium and telly viewers around the world.

German-based Tarm Showlaser, which has earlier organized such shows at FIFA World Cup and Winter Olympics at Vancuber and Athens Olympics in 2004, will be producing the laser show.

?We promise our show would be something never seen in India before. We have several ideas that go with the modern and contemporary India, ? said a spokesperson of the company.

OrganizingCommittee officials hope the laser show will be as popular as the aerostat, if not more.

According to head of the ceremonies team Shovana Narayan, the theme of closing ceremony would be quite different from the inaugural show.

While the opening march past saw athletes from different country moving in a separate contingent, the closing march past would feature mixed groups of participating athletes to spell out a message that they are leaving as one large family.

The closing ceremony, theme for which would evolve around love, has been designed as a cultural show with an idea to unite athletes of all participating countries.

While singers A R Rahaman and Hariharan delighted the packed audience with their inspiring rendition on Oct 3, the closing ceremony will witness performances by noted Indian sufi singers Kailash Kher and Zila Khan.

Other highlights of the closing ceremony include, sequence of marshal art, where nine martial art forms with participants from different states, will be showcased.
