India-New Zealand match ends in tame draw

Hyderabad : A maiden double century (225) by New Zealand’s stylish right-hander Brendon McCullum dashed India’s hope of a victory as the second Test ended in a tame draw on the fifth and final day here on Tuesday.

New Zealand had declared their second innings for 448 for 8 at tea. India batted only 17 overs after tea.

India were 68 for no loss when the match was called off. Virender Sehwag was on 54 and Gautam Gambhir on 14 when stumps were drawn.

Earlier, Brendon McCullum stroked a scintillating 225 off 308 balls, his huge score embellished by for over boudaries and 22 hits to the fences at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

He got a life on 148 when he was dropped Cheteshwar Pujara at short leg off a delivery from Harbhajan Singh.

India had a 122 run lead in the first innings after New Zealand scored 350.

The third and the last Test is scheduled on Nov 20 at Nagpur.
