IPL player Saurabh Bandekar booked for threatening journalist
Panaji : A Goa-based Indian Premier League (IPL) player and a state-level Ranji cricketer are booked for threatening a senior journalist on Wednesday.
The journalist attached to a national news agency, in his complaint with the Panjim police station, alleged that Bangalore Royal Challengers reserve player Saurabh Bandekar (23) and Ranji player Rohit Asnodkar had obstructed the traffic by parking their car in the middle of the road and were speaking on the mobile phone.
Eye-witnesses say that the incident happened right near the Panjim police station but neither did the police challan the traffic violators nor attempted to ease out traffic congestion.
?I was heading to the International Film Festival of India venue when I honked at the car before me, which was parked a short distance from the police station in the middle of the road. After that, Sourabh instigated his colleague Rohit to handle me,? the journalist mentioned in his complaint letter.
?I was then abused and publicly threatened by Rohit,? he added.
Panjim police have booked the pair under sections 504 (abusing) and 506 (threatening) of the Indian Penal Code. Police Inspector Sandesh Chodankar informed reporters that the pair has also filed a non-cognizable cross complaint against the journalist for abusing them.
