Final decision on Kochi IPL today

The decision on allowing the Kochi team to play in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) season 4 will be announced on Sunday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) amid speculations that they might survive the axe of the Indian cricket board.

In the meeting of IPL Governing Council the final decision would be announced after consideration of the new shareholding pattern of the team.

BCCI officials earlier in Nagpur last week that Kochi has submitted papers on its ownership patterns, which was the crux of the problem, while the team’s mentor and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor tweeted a possible conciliation.

“They have disclosed their ownership pattern. We will take our lawyers’ opinion since we are not legal experts,” said BCCI President Shashank Manohar in Nagpur earlier.

Manohar had said after review by the legal experts the final decision would be made known on Dec 5 in Mumbai.

On Oct 10, two of the IPL teams- Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab- had their franchise agreements terminated by the Indian cricket board because of questions over their shareholding and ownership patterns.
