Drama in Orissa assembly

It refers to dramatic scene in Orissa state-assembly when an opposition-leader could manage to lie down on table of the assembly Speaker to focus attention of TV cameras on him in name of protesting against some decision of state-government. It is against all democratic norms and public-interest when unruly behaviour of legislators waste huge public-money on frequently adjourned sittings of legislative bodies. It is high time that behaviour of Parliamentarians and state-legislators during House-proceedings may be brought under normal law of land. It may be recalled that state-legislatures like Tamilnadu state-assembly witnessed even blood-baths because of proceedings of elected Houses being immunized from law of land. If such immunity continues, day may not be far when quarrels between members may even turn fatal. It is regrettably observed that chairpersons and House-committees are often soft in action against unruly behaviour of their members.

Misused immunity patronized even bribe-taking MPs when even Supreme Court acquitted Parliamentarians involved in infamous JMM-bribery case because bribed act of Parliamentarians (to vote for Narsimha Rao government) was immunized being the act done during Lok Sabha proceedings.
