Manmohan writes to PAC to be quizzed on 2G scam

Sticking to him words, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday wrote to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), probing 2G spectrum allocation scam, that he is ready to appear before it and be quizzed.

According to reports, the PM’s letter addressed to PAC Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi said he is ready to appear before it in connection to the 2G spectrum issue.

Joshi is the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which the main Opposition in India that is demanding to set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the 2G spectrum allocation in 2008.

The Opposition parties have been blaming Singh for averting the ‘real issue’ of the 2G scam and skirting the demand for the JPC.

They also alleged that the government did not want to sanction the JPC to investigate the 2G conspiracy – one that cost India 1.76 lakh crores, according to the government’s auditor, the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG).

Following up PM’s announcement at the Congress plenary session, Singh made the offer in his letter to PAC Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi, said party sources, refusing to give in more details.
