Jolt for Raja as court favours Subramanian Swamy

A CBI designated court here on Friday held as maintainable the complaint filed by Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy seeking prosecution of A Raja, the former Telecom Minister accuased in the Rs 1.76 lakh crore 2G scam.

The Special CBI Judge Pradeep Chaddah said the complaint is “maintainable”.

“Swamy’s plea against Raja stands” the court said.

Swamy had argued to make Raja an accused in the case and prosecute him. He had demanded an FIR be lodged against Raja.
The court can summon Raja in the case depending on the arguments of Swamy.

The first major obstacle is now gone to prosecute Raja, said Swamy.

“I have impeccable evidence,” he said on prosecution of Raja.

In 2008, Raja gave mobile licenses to companies that were new to the telecom sector.

The CAG in a report said Raja’s policies cost the government close to 1.76 lakh crores. The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) faulted Raja for undervaluing spectrum to favour companies who were largely ineligible for 2g spectrum.

The seething assessment forced Raja to resign from the government as telecom minister.
