Banda rape case: SC notice to govt, police
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh government and police and jail authorities in connection with the Banda rape case.
Acting on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking Central Bureau of Investigation into the rape case, the apex court sent notices to UP Home Secretary, SP Banda district and Banda jail superintendent.
The PIL claimed that the victim is a minor and yet, she was kept in the jail and not juvenile custody.
They want a CBI probe to unearth the whole truth.
Meanwhile, the judicial custody of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) legislator Purshottam Naresh Dwivedi and three others was extended by 14 days by a local court.
Dwivedi and the others are facing charges of raping the Dalit girl on December 10-11 at his residence.
The victim escaped from the MLA’s house on December 12 when the MLA allegedly attempted rape for the third time and was arrested same day on theft charges.
