Three killed by suspected Maoists in West Bengal
Suspected Maoists killed three people in an attack on a tea shop at Salboni in West Midnapore district of West Bengal on Sunday.
Police said three people died on the spot while one admitted in hospital is seriously injured.
The dead are reportedly supporters of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
The CPI-M has called a shutdown in Salboni on Monday to protest the killings.
Earlier, two Maoists were arrested from West Midnapore on Sunday.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan condemned the Salboni attack and said the intellectuals should not support the Maoists who have a different ideology.
“No one should be killed,” he said.
The CPI-M was earlier facing a barrage of criticism over the recent carnage in Nitai village of West Midnapore district which was blamed on its armed cadres.
