Experimentation should have some basis: Rahul Mitra

Kolkata, Aug 31 : People who experiment with songs of Rabindranath Tagore (Rabindra Sangeet) should have a logic and a basis behind doing it, said singer Rahul Mitra.

?Experimentation is all right, but it should have a basis,? Mitra told IBNS in Kolkata.

?One should have a logic, and should do it if it adds some value to it,? he added.

Mitra is one such singer who ‘consciously’ stays away from experimentation in Rabindranath Tagore’s song and choose to stick to the traditional forms.

Mitra will perform a twin recital at the G.D. Birls Sabhagar here on September 4 and 5 organized by the ?Utsaha- Udbhas?, a cultural forum dedicated to the restoration na preservation of the traditional form of Rabindra Sangeet.

?This 150th birth anniversary, it is more important than ever to realize that Tagore?s songs are not for superficial entertainment; rather they are a divine medium of self-introspection and re-inventing different emotions in one?s life,? he said.

?This will be the key note of my presentation on the 4th and 5th of September,? he added.

Mitra also informed that the song cluster of the first day has been named ?Chhayapather Gaan? and ?Aalochhayar Gaan? for the second day.
