India on Saturday paid glowing tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 20th death anniversary.
President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the departed leader?s widow Congress chief Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to the Rajiv Gandhi at his memorial ?Veer Bhumi? in New Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra also paid homage to their father who was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE or Tamil Tigers) group on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during a poll campaign.
Gandhi, the youngest Prime Minister of India who assumed office at the age of 40, is remembered for modernising India?s telecommunications industry, the education system, expanding science and technology initiatives and improving relations with the United States.
With an objective to keep youth away from terror activities, his death anniversary May 21 is also observed as Anti-Terrorism Day in India.
