Sai Baba?s condition worsens; security tightened

Condition of Godman Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who has been suffering from lung and chest congestion, is deteriorating, his doctors said in the latest medical bulletin on Thursday.

Meanwhile security has been tightened across Puttaparthi town as thousands of devotees from across the nation have arrived in the town to pray for their adored leader.

“All the organs are showing very poor response to the treatment,” said a medical bulletin issued by the director of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, on Thursday.

Non-functioning of the liver and persistent episodes of low blood pressure are causing great worry to the doctors. However, most of the parameters have still been kept at nearly normal levels by the use of appropriate medicines.

“The breathing is still ventilator dependent. And the process of slow haemodialysis has been started in the morning to assist the kidneys,” it added.

Sathya Sai Baba has been hospitalized since March 28.

Over 2000 police personnel have been deployed in the town, especially in front of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, where the godman is admitted.

Chief Minister Kiran Reddy too has voiced his concerns about the spiritual guru. He also asked for a brief on security arrangements from Director General of Police Aravinda Roa in Hyderabad.

State Major Industries Minister J Geeta Reddy, Anantapur district Collector B Janardhana Reddy and Deputy Inspector General of Police Charu Sinha, are already camping before the hospital and they reviewed Sai Baba’s health condition this morning with the hospital director A N Safaya.

While prohibitory orders have been clamped across the town, members of the Sathya Sai Central Trust held a closed-door meeting to decide on their course of action.

85-year-old Sathya Sai Baba is one of the most popular spiritual leaders across the world.
