Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) : Godman Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who has been suffering from lung and chest congestion and was in critical condition for the last few days, died at 7:40 am on Sunday morning.
The news brought grief to the millions of devotees he had worldwide. Sai Baba?s body will be kept for two days to allow devotees to see him for the last time.
His condition was described as ?very critical? over the last few days by the team of specialist doctors taking care of him at the Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSIHMS).
?He is still breathing with ventilator support. The episodes of low blood pressure are still a cause of great worry to the doctors treating him,? said the last bulletin from the director of the hospital.
Security had been tightened across Puttaparthi town as thousands of devotees from across the nation have arrived in the town to pray for their adored leader.
Over 2,000 police personnel were deployed in the town, especially in front of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, where the godman was admitted.
Sathya Sai Baba was hospitalized since March 28. The 85-year-old guru was one of the most popular spiritual leaders across the world.
