I do not know if I am out or in: Sunil Gavaskar

Mumbai : Cricketing icon Sunil Gavaskar on Wednesday said he was not aware if he was in or out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council amid reports that he has been axed.

Reports said the former India captain has been removed from the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s 81st Annual General Meeting.

“I have not been informed by the BCCI. I do not know if I am in or out. Nobody called me,” Gavaskar told a leading news channel from Mumbai.

He said he had never taken any money for the various services, including coaching, to Indian cricket.

“I am what I am because of Indian cricket. I have never taken a single paisa for any of the jobs,” he said.

“For me it is an honour and duty to serve Indian cricket,” he said.

Meanwhile, the BCCI also decided to withdraw their corruption case filed against former chief Jagmohan Dalmiya in the Bombay High Court.

Dalmiya was expelled from India’s highest cricket body in 2006.

During the day, Chirayu Amin, who had replaced the tainted Lalit Modi, was officially appointed chairman of the IPL governing council.

The other members of the IPL Governing Council included Rajiv Shukla, Anurag Thakur, Ranjib Biswal and Arun Jaitley.

The Board also decided to showcause three IPL franchisees – Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab, and the Kochi team – on their ownership pattern and source of funding.

The BCCI chose its secretary N Srinivasan for the president-elect’s post. He will replace Shashank Manohar next year.
