Kolkata safest during a recession
A recent survey by a staffing company has found that among all major cities of country the effects of the economic downturn were felt least by those working in Kolkata.
In the ninth iteration of the survey carried out of Teamlease Services, it was found that while the incidence of pink slips was highest in Delhi and Pune, 43 percent of employees in Kolkata did not witness any downsizing.
However, even though 50 percent of all the people surveyed said the recall procedure post-recession was managed well by the organizations, Bangalore and Kolkata workforce voiced their opinion saying companies should devise new policies and work towards innovative Human Resource (HR) policies.
Almost 63 percent of the respondents from here said that their organization has not introduced any new employee friendly policies post recession.
The survey covered 350 working professionals and 50 Human Resource professionals across key cities in India namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
The objective of the study was to analyze the impact of recent economic downturn on the Indian workforce by getting perspectives of employees and employers, company officials said.
