Rail Accidents

There was a time when the then Union Railway Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri resigned after a railway-accident owning moral responsibility. Now-a-days our political rulers blame every aspect for tragedies except themselves sharing even a little bit of responsibility by themselves. Whatever might have been the cause of Sainthia train-collision on 19.07.2010, it remains a bitter fact that Mamta Banerjee has failed to devote full time as Union Railway Minister for which she is paid from central exchequer. If she would have devoted whole-heartedly to affairs of Indian Railways, safety-features like including anti-collision devices would have been installed to prevent unfortunate tragedies including Sainthia train-collision.

Rule should be that a person appointed as a minister (or even a Parliamentarian) should resign from all posts in party and private organisations so that he/she may have no option other than to devote full time for the job for which the person may be getting pay/perks/privileges from the exchequer. Second and still best option is to appoint only non-members as ministers who might not have elected any election in last say six years to make Parliamentarians as king-makers rather than kings themselves so as to have a vigil and watch on such appointed ministers. Idea will bring experts rather than selfish politicians on ministerial posts without any aim of political-gain out of their ministerial berths.
