People of India have taken a sigh of relief on Supreme Court expressing deep anguish over high-level corruption in Commonwealth Games 2010 indicating also about Apex Court not being a silent spectator to all that is happening in this country. But nothing can be improved till stringent-most law to curb corruption is legislated, a step which our highly corrupt politicians will never allow. It is a matter of shame that big political leaders notorious for their corrupt deeds ultimately escape punishment.
Only a fear psychology developed through stringent penalties right up to death-sentence can prevent ever-rising corruption. Monetary amounts involved in scams and scandals should be basis for punishments like death-sentence, life-imprisonment and other subsequent lower jail-sentence apart from confiscating properties of corrupt persons and their family members. Cases especially involving elected representatives should be decided at super-fast speed to be decided at every court-stage in a time-bound manner on basis of day-to-day hearing avoiding any postponements or long dates. Since in this corruption starts from the top, such steps should be initiated from top. Prime Minister Dr Manmohansingh, who is renowned for his honesty, should act bold and create history by openly announcing such steps without caring for his corrupt allies. His government will then get support directly from public rather than black-mailing political allies.
