BJD workers protest LPG price hike, cap in Odisha
Bhubaneswar : Hundreds of activists of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Tuesday held a protest in the Odisha capital against recent cap on supply of subsidised cooking gas cylinders (LPG) and the Rs.11.42 hike in price per cylinder.
The activists of the women wing of the party staged the protest near Raj Bhavan, the official residence of Governor M.C. Bhandare, in the state capital.
Demanding a roll-back of the central government decision, the demonstrators also submitted a memorandum to the governor.
“The central government has taken decision without taking into consideration the interest of the poor and middle class. This is an undemocratic, anti-people decision,” BJD women’s wing chief Pramila Mallik said.
The BJD will take the protest to the block and village level if the central government does not roll back the decision, she said while addressing the party workers.
The central government recently put a cap on supply of subsidised cooking gas to six cylinders of 14.2 kg size per household in a year.
Cooking gas (LPG) price was hiked Oct 6 by Rs.11.42 per cylinder following the government’s decision to raise commission paid to LPG dealers from Rs.25.83 per cylinder to Rs.37.25.
