CBI to frisk Reliance, Swan Telecom ties

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is about to probe possible ties between the Anil Dhirubai Ambani Group (ADAG) and Swan Telecom in the alleged 2G spectrum scam case, media reports said on Saturday.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had said that Swan Telecom had acted as a front for the ADAG?s Reliance Communications during the controversial spectrum allocation in 2008.?

The CBI has added that Swan was one of the companies that was given undue favours by former telecoms minister A Raja. The investigating agency had arrested the company?s promoter Shahid Balwa on Wednesday.

Balwa, earlier in a letter to the CBI, had admitted to links between Swan and Reliance, NDTV reported. Swan had agreed to use Reliance?s equipment while the latter would hold 9.9 percent stake in Swan, Balwa had reportedly said.

The CBI is currently investigating the 2G scam in which telecoms spectrum was allocated by former minister A Raja by flouting protocol causing massive revenue loss to the Indian government.
