Fire at the Hitachi AC Manufacturing facility near Ahmedabad
Indian firefighters try to control the blaze at the Hitachi Airconditioner Manufacturing facility at Karan Nagar near Kadi town, some 50 kms from Ahmedabad, early on July 19, 2012.
The cause of the overnight fire, which gutted the plant that manufactures some 350,000 air conditioning units per year, is still unknown.
Hundreds of contractual workers employed at the plant have been on strike since June 8, alleging exploitation and low wages.
