India?s Export grows 22.5% in August: Commerce secy

New Delhi :India?s exports registered a growth of 22.5% in August, 2010, at USD 16.64 billion.

Announcing this at a press interaction here on Wednesday, Rahul Khullar, Commerce Secretary, stated that during April-August 2010-11, exports reached a level of USD 85.27 billion at a growth of 28.6% while the imports were USD 141.89 billion with a growth of 33.2% and a trade deficit of USD 56.62 billion.

?We are on the track of achieving a target of USD 200 billion,? Khullar said.

During the interaction, Khullar informed that India?s imports in August were USD 29.7 billion, up by 32.6%.

The Commerce Secretary further said some sectors are doing well viz., cotton yarn, iron ore, gems & jewellery, plastics & linoleum, and leather engineering.
