Kapil Sibal meets to appease telecom players
Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal met with the big fish of the industry on Tuesday to address their concerns over the ongoing turbulence in the sector over the 2G scam and promised an increased operational transparency in his department.
Among the people people who had meetings with Sibal on Tuesday were Ratan Tata of Tata Tele, Anil Ambani of Reliance Communications and Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel.
According to reports, a number of issues including a shortage in spectrum, past irregularities and notices issued to the carriers were discussed.
The minister is said to have assured greater transparency in spectrum allocations in the future and discussed the roadmap of the industry.
Sibal was asked to step in into the shoes of the telecom minister after his predecessor A Raja was forced to resign last month after being accused of masterminding a mammoth spectrum allocation scam by the government’s auditor.
