Maruti Suzuki Working on Two New Diesel Engines
Maruti Suzuki India, the No.1 carmaker of the country, is reportedly working on 2 new diesel models, which are expected to developed by2014-end.
A media report suggest that Maruti Suzuki is planning to use the engines in models, which are likely to be developed in-house for India. The new models are expected to cope-up with the increasing demand for diesel vehicles in the domestic market.
Maruti Suzuki is currently uses the 1.3-litre Fiat Sourced engine throughout its line-up including Swift, Swift Dzire and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ad SX4.
Now Japanese auto major Suzuki wishes to develop its own engines and working on two diesel engines- a 1.0-litre and a 1.4-litre in Japan for the Indian market. Moreover, the new products a new sedan which will feature the 1.4-litre diesel engine and could be positioned above the company’s top selling compact sedan, Swift Dzire.
On the other hand, the 1.0-litre diesel engine will be used in the company’s future small car line-up. There are also reports that the smaller engine will be fitted in the company’s top selling vehicles including WagonR, A-star and others. Maruti alone too is investing around Rs 1,700 crore to set up a diesel engine plant at Gurgaon to produce three lakh units a year. However, there are no official words on the development yet, though we are expecting a new compact sedan and a small car, which will feature the new 1.4-liter and 1.0-litre engines respectively.
