ONGC begins shale gas exploration in West Bengal

Kolkata : Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Thursday said its engineers and technical staff had started shale gas exploration in West Bengal.

The drilling started on Tuesday last, a statement, issued by the Government owned exploration company said.

Potentiality of shale gas– underground rock formations that hold reserves of oil and natural gas, is huge in West Bengal, the ONGC researchers believe.

The company said it had notified the regulator, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, on Tuesday about two hydrocarbon exploration discoveries in India’s eastern and western coasts.
