Power to industries to cost more in UP

Lucknow : Industries in Uttar Pradesh will now have to shell out more for electricity, as the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) late Friday came up with a new tariff plan with increased per unit charges for the sector.

According to the new tariff plan that came into force with retrospective effect from Oct 1, heavy industries in the state will have to pay extra of to Rs.2 per unit. However, the new tariff would be hinged on the period of power consumption, an official said.

The industries using 11 KV power supply would now have to pay Rs.5.46 per unit against the earlier tariff of Rs.4.26 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. But for those using power between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m., the per unit charge has been raised from Rs.4.60 to Rs.5.90, the official added.

For industrial consumers using power during the peak hours between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., the per unit charge has gone up to Rs.6.79 per unit from the existing Rs.5.29 per unit.

A separate tariff structure has been charted out for the small and medium scale industries, who will now have to pay at the rate of Rs.4.97 per unit – up from the existing Rs.4.21 per unit, the official said.

The hiked power tariffs will not apply to commercial and domestic consumers.
