Pranab Mukherjee moots CBI probe into 2G scam; Opposition rigid

The government and the Opposition stuck to the guns on a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the 2G scam even as senior Congress Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday mooted on having a Supreme Court-monitored CBI inquiry into the issue.

Mukherjee, Congress leader of the House in Lok Sabha, called on NDA Working-Chairperson L K Advani and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to discuss the continuing deadlock in Parliament since Nov 10 over Opposition demand for a JPC probe.

Refusing to budge a inch the BJP leaders continued with their demand of having an JPC probe into the issue.

The Union Finance Minister also spoke to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury but the Left party had reportedly left it on the government.

“Government is primarily and constitutionally accountable only to Parliament. The best and only option in this case is a JPC probe,” Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia said in New Delhi.
