Rata Tata in British panel to boost UK economy
Tata Group’s chairman Ratan Tata has been named in a 19-member group of famous, which would help the British government in preparing business strategies and highlight priorities for the UK economy, suffered from worldwide recession.
Tata?s name in the UK panel meant his influence in British economy with his Group of companies having tremendous brand names,such as Tata Steel and the tea company.
About 65 per cent Tata Group?s income comes from outside India, mostly from Corus and Jaguar Land Rover.
Other prominent members in the group of UK panel include Paul Walsh of Diageo, Justin King of Sainsbury?s, Sam Laidlaw of Centrica and Sir Michael Rake of BT, media reports said.
The panel of leading industry bosses will interact with the UK government on business issues.
Tata, who is to retire as head of the Tata Group in 2012, has been part of various advisory councils in India, the most recent being an in advisory panel formed to suggest ways to restructure the ailing national carrier, Air India, a brainchild of J R D Tata.
