Republicans defeat anti-outsourcing Bill in Senate

Washington : The Republicans have prevented passage of an anti-offshoring bill, that would have denied tax breaks to US firms which outsource the jobs to overseas.
The Republicans won 53-45 votes in Senate and blocked the bill from overcoming a filibuster.

At least 60 votes are needed to overcome the Opposition’s obstruction to the bill seeking seeking a ban on the Government contractors from using American taxpayers’ money to move jobs offshore, but the Indian IT providers had said it would not make much of an impact on India.

Several business leaders like the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), who were strongly opposed to the legislation had sent a letter to senators arguing the measure would make US corporations less competitive and hurt job creation.

Terming the bill as a populist gimmick, Republican senator Orrin Hatch charged the Democrats with “height of irresponsibility” that would put the US economy at “greater risk.”
