Sensex closes above 21K on Diwali

Dalal Street celebrated a very happy Diwali on Friday as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex closed 111.39 points above yesterday at 21,004.96, making it the highest close ever.

It wasn?t just the country?s main stock index, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty too closed 30.65 points above yesterday at 6,312.45.

A special truncated trading session was held in the exchanges for brokers and investors to cash in on the Diwali revelry during a one-hour trading session.

While much of the credit for the market?s mood is being credited to the unprecedented response to the recent Coal India listing, almost no segment was left out of the boom with auto, banking and healthcare sectors seeing a lot of positive action on Friday.
