Sony eyes 54% growth for FY10

Sony India is expecting sales of Rs 5700 crore and a growth of about 54 percent for its business by the end of this fiscal year, the consumer electronics brand said on Monday.

For the first half of the current fiscal, the company reported a growth of 46 percent over the corresponding period in 2009-10 and expects a higher rate by the April 2011 riding on strengthened distribution network, aggressive marketing and new products.

The company said it still retains the leading positions in flat-panel television and digicam markets with its Bravia and Cyber-shot offerings while its computer brand Vaio has risen to the third position from the fifth in 2009.

The festive season too added to its cheer with 54 percent more sales this Diwali than last year adding to the Rs 2600 so far in sales this fiscal.

?India is amongst the top 10 priority markets for Sony and thus, we eagerly look forward to expand our operations here,” Sony India managing director Masaru Tamagawa said.
