Kharif crops have been sown in 1017.63 lakh ha area so far. It is 64.97 lakh ha more than the acreage on this date last year (952.66 lakh ha).? It is also 10.02 lakh ha more than 2008, which was a record production year.? The sowing of all major crops this year is more than that in the last kharif.
As per data received from States, paddy has been sown in 351.17 lakh hectare as compared to 330.30 lakh ha on this date last year, showing an increase of 20.87 lakh ha over the same period.
Pulses have been sown in 113.88 lakh ha so far which is 19.26 lakh ha more than this time last season.
Coarse cereals have been sown in 212.16 lakh ha, 6 lakh ha more as compared to last year.
