Uninor adds 1.5 lac Kolkata subscribers

Kolkata : Moblie telephony brand Uninor has added a total of 1.5 lac new subscribers in August in Kolkata.

As per the latest data released by COAI and AUSPI, this is higher than any other operator in the city and places the company as the single largest GSM operator in Kolkata in terms of subscriber addition in August.

With 1.9 lac subscribers, in the rest of West Bengal circle too, Uninor has emerged as the largest mobile operator in terms of net adds in August.

Uninor has expanded its retail presence in Kolkata to now cover close to 12,974 points of sale and 25 exclusive stores. An additional 19,768 points of sale and 31 exclusive stores cover the rest of West Bengal circle, including Sikkim, said the company on Monday.

The company said it has also seen increasing primary SIM usage, especially in Kolkata and West Bengal, together with the other 3 new circles of Mumbai, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Pan-India, Uninor has reported a subscriber addition of 22 lac (2.2 million) – the highest addition in a month since launch in December 2009.

With a pan-India share of net adds at 16% and share in its 13 circles at 21%, Uninor has emerged as the third highest operator in the country in terms of new subscriber additions – this when its subscribers come from only 13 circles at present.

Within 9 months of starting its operations, Uninor?s pan-India customer base has now crossed 10 million.

With a few days to go, the company?s revenue growth is expected to cross 100% from Q2 to Q3 with a subscriber base growth of 79% in the same period. Revenue growth is coming from an overall increase in minutes of use as well as improving ARPU.

Uninor is today commercially present in 13 circles that together account for 75% of India?s population. It has already deployed over 22,000 towers and is augmenting this network further in several circles.

Operationally too, Uninor has now set-up 60 hub and zonal offices pan-India, already works with over 20,000 vendors and partners in various functional areas, has close to 2600 direct employees with an additional 6000 from partner organizations working for the company.

Uninor is owned by the Norway based world?s 6th largest mobile services provider Telenor Group and India?s second largest diversified real estate major Unitech Ltd. The Telenor Group has invested INR 6135.63 crores through new shares to hold 67.25% majority stake in the company.

The company holds a pan-India UAS license to offer mobile telephony services in each of India?s 22 circles. It has also received spectrum to roll out these services in 21 of the 22 circles.

At present, Uninor services are available in the thirteen circles of UP (West), UP (East), Bihar, Orissa, Kolkata, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
