Volkswagen to Discontinue Polo 1.6 in India

It seems like Volkswagen India is working hard on their stable in the country, after introducing a bunch of new add-on features and prices of the Polo and Vento, now there are rumors coming that company has stopped the production of Polo 1.6. To get more on this we contact our sources at VW India and they inform us that Volkswagen has stopped production of the Polo 1.6 in India. However, there is no official statement has been received so far.

VW has discontinued the Polo 1.6 most probably due to poor demand. And for now, dealers have a few units of the Polo 1.6 with them and will be offering discounts to clear stocks. While rumors of Maruti Suzuki bringing in the Swift Sport are doing the rounds since quite some time now, this move by Volkswagen clearly reveals that there is very little demand for petrol powered performance hatchbacks.

Last month Volkswagen sold a respectable 3498 units of the Polo hatchback, with majority of the sales coming from the 1.2-litre diesel version. The 1.2-litre petrol is also quite popular with petrol hatchback buyers, as it offers very good economy compared to the 1.6-litre petrol variant. The Polo 1.2 is cheaper as well and benefits from lower excise duty, something the 1.6-litre Polo misses out on. Volkswagen Polo price is Rs. 6.55 lakh, ex-showroom New Delhi. The hatch is capable of churning out a power of 103bhp and a torque of 153Nm and it returns a mileage of 13kmpl. The Polo 1.6 is known for its efficiency and quality performance that it delivers. Volkswagen Polo on the whole is known for the amazing feel, sporty nature and immense comfort level that the entire lineup offers. The range starts from a price of Rs. 4.75 – Rs. 7.49 lakh.
