A K Mattoo promises clean village at CWG
New Delhi : A day after collapse of a footbridge, critical comments by the Commonwealth Games Federation over the Games Village condition, Organising Committee treasurer A K Mattoo on Wednesday admitted that there are concerns about hygiene and cleanliness but promised to sort out all the “mess within the next 36 hours”.
Mattoo told reporters that no athlete would have chance to complain as cleanliness and sterilisation have been taken on war footing at the Games village.
“We are sorry for the trouble and inconvenience. What had happened, perhaps the level of cleanliness was not adhered to or not provided. But it is a huge area known to various people and there could have been certain shortcomings. We ensure you that we will make up for any deficiency that exists within the next two days,” Mattoo said.
CGF Chief Executive Mike Hooper had earlier termed the Games Village as “filthy and uninhabitable”.
